What is Dyson Onyx Gold?
Introduction to the Dyson Onyx Gold Collection
Onyx Gold is the latest colourway from Dyson and it is available in the Supersonic Hairdryer and the Airwrap Multi-Styler. Both these products would make the most perfect Christmas presents, especially Dyson offer monogramming for the cases, it’s in store only, but what a beautiful way to personalise a gift for a loved one!
The Inspiration Behind the Collection:
The new Dyson Onyx Gold colour palette is inspired by themes of luxury, style, and opulence, to elevate the Supersonic and the Airwrap Multi-Styler to the next level.
Visual Appeal and Design:
The Onyx Gold Colourway uses sleek dark lines with the most stunning contrast of satin-finished gold. Then the controls offer up a pop of red which lifts the ultra-matte black of the main components. It is super chic.
Dyson Onyx Gold Supersonic Hair Dryer:
The Supersonic hair dryer has been engineered to cater to all hair types. The finesse of this product is all about a fast but focused air flow that allows you to dry your hair without ruffling the hair or employing extreme heat. This is hair care rather than just hair styling.
The dryer is super light yet there is a lot going on inside. Unlike traditional hair dryers, the Dyson Supersonic works to measures air temperature 40 times a second to regulate temperature output and ensure the hair isn’t damaged by extreme heat. It is designed to protect the hair’s shine.
The Onyx Gold Supersonic Settings and Attachments
There are 3 precise speed settings:
- High – for fast drying and styling
- Medium – for regular drying
- Low – for diffusing
There are 4 precise heat settings:
- 100°C fast drying and styling
- 80°C regular drying
- 60°C gentle drying
- 28°C constant cold
There is also a Cold Shot to set your hair after styling.
This model comes with a huge range of attachments that make it much more than a hairdryer:
- Styling concentrator – this is a wider, thinner design than the original Styling Concentrator. It creates a high-velocity blade of air which means that the air is super focused and you can style one section at a time, without disturbing the rest
- Gentle air attachment – this is engineered to be kinder to fine hair and sensitive scalps, by creating a gentle, cooler airflow – while still drying hair fast
- Flyaway attachment – this is the ideal finishing tool for sleek, straight styles. It adds shine and tackles flyaways with ease for a smooth finish
- Diffuser – disperses air more evenly around your curls and simulates natural drying. It reduces frizz and defines curls and waves
- Wide-tooth comb – a new attachment engineered for curly and coily hair. The robust teeth help to lengthen hair as it dries, as well as create volume and shape
The Dyson Onyx Gold Supersonic hair dryer is priced at £329.99/ €399.99 and available from Dyson Demo Stores and Dyson.co.uk & Dyson.ie.
Dyson Onyx Gold Airwrap Multi-Styler:
The Dyson Airwrap multi-styler has been re-engineered for faster, easier
styling. Like the Supersonic, it features Dyson’s intelligent heat control technology, which means you never use extreme heat to prevent hair from heat damage.
On top of this, the Airwrap uses the famous Coanda effect that uses variances in pressure that allows the air flow to attach itself to the surface to ingeniously control and shape the hair.
The Onyx Gold Airwrap Multi-Styler Settings and Attachments
There are 3 precise airflow speeds, to suit your styling and also three precise heat settings plus a cold shot.
This model comes with a range of brilliant attachments:
- 30mm Airwrap Long Barrel – to create and set loose curls or waves
- 40mm Airwrap Barrel – to create and set bigger loose curls or waves
- Firm Smoothing Brush – firmer bristles for thicker hair. Smoothes frizz-prone hair with increased control
- Soft smoothing brush – softer bristles engineered for finer hair, for smooth, straighter styles
- Round Volumising Brush – engineered to give body and shape, creating a smooth and bouncy blow-dry look
- Coanda smoothing dryer – multi-functional attachment to dry and also smooth flyaways
- Filter cleaning brush
A key thing to note alongside this amazing new colourway is that this new version of the Airwrap Multi-Styler needs just one of each of the barrel size. You can now change the setting to switch up the airflow direction for styling.
The Dyson Airwrap multi-styler in Onyx Gold is priced at £479.99/ €549.99 and is available from Dyson Demo Stores, Dyson.co.uk and Dyson.ie.
My Review and Opinion of the Dyson Onyx Gold Collection
I have absolutely fallen in love with the Dyson Onyx Gold collection. I love a bit of glam and this new colourway is super luxurious and looks so sleek and opulent. If you were ever thinking about buying the Supersonic or the Airwrap Multi-Styler as a present for someone that loves luxury, this is the colourway to get!
The Supersonic Review
The Dyson Supersonic in Onyx Gold has so many amazing attachments that is really is so much more than a hairdryer. The attachments turn it into a styler in its own right.
I absolutely love the Wide Tooth Comb attachment which has been designed for coily and curly hair. My hair is pretty straight but I use it to really boost my hair’s volume at the root and it does this so well. Make sure you check out the video below to see this in action.
The flyaway attachment is also brilliant as I have fairly coarse hair and sometimes my greys can go a bit wild at the roots. This attachment really helps to smooth them down and really polish the finished style.
Also I love the Concentrator attachment. This is a new and improved attachment and is now wider and thinner than the previous version which delivers an even more focused blade of air. What this means is that the Supersonic is now even better at styling precise sections without disturbing other parts of the hair. Unheard of with traditional hairdryers.
Each attachment attaches with a magnet, so they are super easy to quickly change.
The Airwrap Multi-Styler Review
My obsession with this Airwrap is next level. I had the original Airwrap when it first launched a few years back and loved it, but this one is out of this world.
Apart from the fact that I am in love with the matte black and satin gold, I just think the functionality has improved beyond measure. There are so many different attachments that make it the most versatile hair styler you can buy as there is an attachment for every hair type.
I love the new Coanda Smoothing Dryer attachment which turns your Airwrap into a really effective hairdryer in its own right. It literally rough dries the hair from wet to dry really quickly leaving a gorgeous shine.
You can also switch this attachment to turn it into a flyaways tamer. It is so clever.
I have always loved the round brush for a bouncy blow dry look. It smooths the hair, adds volume at the roots and creates a really beautiful shape for the ends. Love it. Make sure you watch the video below to see it in action.
Another massive advancement is the new engineering of the barrel attachment. They now each have a switch to change the direction of the airflow for creating waves in different directions. Before you had to change the barrel to change the direction, now you just need to twist the top setting to change it. Genius!
The barrels are the attachments that I get most excited about because not only do they create a beautiful bouncy wave in the hair, but they also add shine. Also, they are perfect on dry hair to quickly touch up your style in between washes.
For lasting waves, I prep the section with hairspray and also make sure to use the cold shot to set the style. Also, I don’t touch the hair until it is completely cool. Make sure you watch my reel below to see all my best Airwrap tips and tricks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Dyson Onyx Gold Airwrap and Supersonic special compared to other models?
The visual design of the Onyx Gold editions really elevates the look and feel of the Supersonic and the Airwrap Multi-Styler. The ultra matte black and satin gold finish give the tools a super luxe and opulent feel making them the perfect luxury gift.
Both the Supersonic and the Airwrap Multi-Styler in the Onyx Gold edition include all the latest re-engineered attachments for effortless care and styling.
How do I maintain and clean my Dyson Onyx Gold Airwrap and Supersonic?
It’s important to clean your Supersonic filter regularly.
This will protect the dryer’s internal components from styling product and dust. You should clean the filter once a month or when the white LED lights alert you.
Check out this video on how to clean the Supersonic Filter.
You should also regularly clean the filter of the Dyson Airwrap. The Onyx Gold edition comes with its own filter cleaning brush attachment.
Are the Onyx Gold Airwrap and Supersonic suitable for all hair types?
Yes, both tools have been designed to be suitable for every hair type. Not everyone has the same type of hair so Dyson have designed different attachments to work for different hair types and create different styles.
Can I use Dyson Airwrap and Supersonic daily without damaging my hair?
The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler protect against extreme heat damage and helps to maintain your hair’s shine.
It is up to the individual whether they want to use the tools every day but you can be confident that they use a lower heat to traditional dryers and stylers.
What is the warranty period for the Dyson Onyx Gold Airwrap and Supersonic, and what does it cover?
Dyson offer a 35-day returns policy, in case you change your mind (on vacuums, hair care, lighting, purifiers, fans and heaters only). There is a two year guarantee which includes repair and replacement of your hair tools.
What length of hair are the 30mm and 40mm Airwrap™ long barrels designed for?
The long barrels are specially designed for hair that’s longer than chest-length. For hair that’s shorter than chest-length, Dyson recommend using the shorter 30mm Airwrap barrels and 40mm Airwrap barrels. Both the long and shorter barrels can work on long hair, but you’ll get the best results if you use the recommended barrel for your hair length.
Does my hair have to be wet to start styling?
For best results, start with freshly washed hair. All the Dyson brush attachments can be used on wet hair, however, the barrels work best on damp hair. It is best to use the Coanda smoothing dryer in Drying mode to get hair to damp before styling with the barrels.
I also find that the barrels work well on dry hair dampened down slightly with heat protector or styling spray. Check out the video below for more tips.
